Early career

As a graduate of the University of Waikato, NZ, John spent his early years as a teacher. After travelling to the UK, he embarked on a career in international sales and marketing with postings in London, Chicago and Brussels. Using his communication, negotiation and language skills, he established sales and distribution channels for USA and European based manufacturers of micrographic, scanning and software products for the Document Management sector in Europe, Latin America and Asia/Pacific markets.


Recognising the rapid transition from microfilm to digital imaging in the early 1990's, John set up a specialist microfilm scanning service company in the UK, providing back-file conversion services, sales and rentals of high speed microfilm and check scanning hardware.

Industry Experience

As an independent consultant to the IMC (International Micrographic Congress), John assisted with the merger with AIIM International, the not-for-profit industry association for document and content management technologies. John was appointed as Sr. VP Europe of AIIM International, where he was instrumental in the association's acquisition of iTX Marketing Services and their UK Document Management Roadshow - now part of AIIM Europe's service offerings. During his tenure at AIIM Europe, he assisted with the establishment of the DLM Network (Document Lifecycle Management), an EU supported initiative for archivists and administrators in the public sector across Europe. John is a Fellow of IMC and AIIM.

Following his work at AIIM, John was responsible for business development at Strategy Partners, an independent European market research and analysis firm, specialising in document, content and output management applications markets.

Joining Boss Equity

During a career spanning over 30 years in the Document and Content Management market, John has experienced the migration from "microfilm to metadata". The combination of his industry knowledge and international sales and marketing background, ensure he is well placed to assist Boss Equity in extending their portfolio of services for the vendor community. In addition to assisting Boss Equity in both the USA and European markets, John's role is to expand their service capabilities in Asia/Pacific and other international regions. Although based in the UK, John now spends an increasing amount of his time in Auckland, NZ, developing Boss Equity’s activities in Asia Pacific.

Other Pursuits

Married with three adult children, John is a keen tennis player, cricketer and golfer. Travel, gardening and photography occupy the rest of his spare time and a selection of his recent photos can be found at flicker
